A Father's Day star map that shows the sky of your first night together

Fathers are famously hard to buy for, and the ones who say they want nothing usually mean they want nothing more. A chart of the sky on the night he first held you is not more of anything: it is a record of one night, drawn from the real positions of the stars.

It suits the dad who likes to know how things work. Every star on the chart is placed by astronomy, not by design: the same night, the same town, the same hour would give the same sky to anyone who computed it.

Father's Day is the third Sunday of June in the US, the UK and Canada, and the first Sunday of September in Australia. The PDF arrives the minute you buy it, so there is no shipping date to miss.

Printing it at home? There is a second paper: the same sky as ink on white. A full-bleed night A3 bands on a home printer and drinks a cartridge; the ink one does not. Same price, pick either on the next page.

Preview free, one-off payment by card, no account. The place, the moment and the line of text are yours to change on the next page; the example shown here is a real sky over Toronto on 18 June 1998, 22:00 local time.

The line of text

The line under the chart is the card: “Toronto, 18 June — the night you became Dad”. Sixty characters, printed small.

Questions people ask

Is the sky on the chart accurate?

Yes. Star positions, the Moon and the planets are computed for the exact place and time you enter, the same way a planetarium does. The preview you see before paying is the chart you get.

He is not sentimental — is there another date that works?

His own birth, the day he started the business, the night of a match he still talks about, a camping trip: any place and hour you can name gives a true sky.

Can it be printed large for a workshop or office?

The PDF is vector, so it stays sharp from A4 up to poster size at any print shop.
