New-baby presents pile up and are outgrown in a season. A chart of the sky at the hour of the birth is the rare one that stays on the wall, and gets more interesting to the child, not less, once they are old enough to find Orion in it.
Births are frequently at four in the morning, which makes a better chart than an evening one: the pre-dawn sky shows the constellations of the season ahead, the ones that will not be visible in the evening for months.
It is also the present that does not duplicate: no two people arrive at the same instant in the same town, so it cannot be the second one they were given.

Questions people ask
Should I use the hospital or where they live?
The hospital, if you want the sky that was actually above them. The difference only shows across a real distance — a hospital on the far side of the same city gives an identical chart.
Does the chart show the Moon or the planets?
Both, where they really were. The Moon is drawn on the disc at the place it stood that night and at the phase it really had — a crescent is drawn as a crescent, not as a full disc — and on a date with no space-station passes to draw, a panel under the chart also names the phase in words and how high it was. Every planet above the horizon is drawn and labelled, Venus and Jupiter and whatever else was up, and the caption under the sky names them. The stars are every one above the horizon at true brightness from the HYG catalogue, and the visible passes of the International Space Station are on the disc when the date is close enough for the orbit to be known.
