A Mother's Day star map of the night she became a mother

Mothers keep the dates. The night you were born is the one she remembers to the hour, which makes it the easiest star chart to get exactly right: ask a sibling or look at the birth certificate for the time and the hospital town.

If it is her own story you want to honour, the chart works just as well for the night she met your father, her wedding, or the town she grew up in on a summer evening. The date chooses the constellations; the hour turns the sky.

Mother's Day falls on different Sundays around the world — March in the UK and Ireland, May in the US, Canada and Australia. The PDF arrives the moment you pay, so the calendar never catches you out.

Printing it at home? There is a second paper: the same sky as ink on white. A full-bleed night A3 bands on a home printer and drinks a cartridge; the ink one does not. Same price, pick either on the next page.

Preview free, one-off payment by card, no account. The place, the moment and the line of text are yours to change on the next page; the example shown here is a real sky over London on 10 May 1992, 03:10 local time.

The line of text

The line under the chart is the card: “London, 3:10 am — the night you made me yours”. Sixty characters, printed small.

Questions people ask

I do not know the exact time I was born — does it matter?

A few minutes change nothing visible; a few hours rotate the sky. If only the day is known, choose a time in the evening, when a real sky would have been looked at, and say so in the line under the chart.

Can I order it the day before Mother's Day?

Yes, even the morning itself: the PDF is delivered by email the moment the payment goes through, and an A3 print at a copy shop takes minutes.

Can one chart show a sky for the whole family?

A chart is one place and one instant. For several children, one chart per birth makes a set; each is $4.99.
